How many sessions will I need?

Each client is different, and the counsellor will work with you to determine how many sessions you require. At steppingstone Counselling we work in blocks of 6 sessions and will review after every 6 sessions, and discuss with you if you feel further counselling is required. Clients are free to end counselling at any stage in the agreed sessions and can discuss this with us freely.


How long will a counselling session last?

Sessions will last a total of 50 minutes with 10 minutes after the session has ended, set aside, in which we will complete notes and admin.


Is counselling for me?

Every person is an individual and you will be able to assess if counselling is for you. However, we are here to support you in doing this. We are open to receiving feedback or discussing your feelings around counselling. If you have any questions or concerns, we offer a free 30-minute consultation to help you understand more about the process.


Will counselling make me feel better?

Having someone to talk to who is outside of your current situation can be helpful and this can help with feelings of loneliness and isolation. However, it is important to know that therapy can take time and can often be challenging. Its important that you discuss with us any questions or concerns you may, therefore we offer a free 30-minute consultation to help you understand more about the process.


My GP has prescribed me medication can I also have counselling?

Yes- we often work with clients who have been prescribed medication by their GP.


Will a counsellor tell me what I need to do to feel better?

Counsellors on the whole are non-directive therefore we will not tell you what to do. We may, however, ask you to complete, tasks or reflect back, to you things we have noticed about your process in session.


Is counselling confidential?

Everything we discuss in our sessions together is confidential. There are however certain circumstances in which confidentiality cannot be maintained and this will be discussed with you in full prior to agreeing to therapy.


Will I need to inform anyone I am having counselling?

No- it is totally up to you who you discuss your decision to enter into counselling with. This service is confidential.


What information will I need to share?

There will be no pressure to share anything you do not wish to. Counselling can be taken at your own pace, and you only need to share if you feel it is the right time to do so. There will be no pressure to share anything you do not feel ready to.


How long will I have to wait until I can see a counsellor?

Steppingstone Counselling work to contact every client within 48 hours of receiving an enquiry. We currently do not have a waiting list for our service. However, if at some point in time we do we will make you fully aware so you can make an informed decision.


How much will be counselling cost?

We currently charge £35 per session for private counselling.
